How do I disable the pop-up notifications about virus signature updates, scheduled scan activity, etc.? (4.0)

By default, ESET security products display pop-up notifications in the Windows notification area regarding detected threats, scheduled scan events, virus signature update activity, etc. Example:

To suppress all pop-up notifications except those requiring user interaction, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the main program window by clicking the icon  next to the system clock or by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
  2. Press the F5 key to display the Advanced Setup window.
  3. From the Advanced Setup tree, click User interface → Alerts and notifications.
  4. Click the Advanced setup... button in the Alerts and notifications area.

  5. In the Alerts and notifications window, select the Display only notifications requiring user interaction option and click OK to close the window. Click OK in the Advanced Setup window to save the changes.


    NOTE: There is also the option to Display only notifications requiring user interaction when running applications in full screen mode. To select this option, you must deselect the Display only notifications requiring user interaction first.
