  1. What is ESET Mobile Antivirus?

    ESET Mobile Antivirus is ESET’s antivirus program for mobile devices such as Smartphones, PDAs and other devices that run compact operating systems.

  2. Why do I need ESET Mobile Antivirus?

    There are many reasons why it is important to have mobile antivirus protection today:
    • Smartphones are rapidly gaining market share. Industry analysts acknowledge that mobile devices will likely get the attention of malware writers in the near future.
    • Users often store significant amounts of personal and company-sensitive data on their Smartphones, often without even noticing (e.g., browser cache, forms and contact lists).
    • Large amounts of data is transferred wirelessly.
    • Various types of files, emails, text and multimedia messages can contain confidential information.
    • Compromised external storage cards can be a source of additional threats.

  3. What is the recommended system configuration?

    ESET Mobile Antivirus requires the following:
    • A mobile device running a supported Microsoft Windows Mobile OS (see below)
    • Runtime memory: 1 MB (0.7 MB min.)

  5. How is ESET Mobile Antivirus updated?

    ESET Mobile Antivirus downloads updates over the Internet. It can be updated automatically or manually by selecting Menu ? Update from the main ESET Mobile Antivirus window. By default, ESET Mobile Antivirus checks for updates weekly and downloads them if available. Automatic updates can be scheduled at one-day, three-day, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly intervals. Automatic updates can also be disabled.

  6. What is a .cab file?

    A cabinet (.cab) file is a library of compressed files, stored into a single archive. Cabinet files are often used as installers; therefore, they may be a potential method for spreading malware.

  7. What is the difference between On-access and On-demand?

    On-demand functions require user interaction while On-access functions are executed automatically.

  8. How big are virus signature database updates?

    Updates are designed to be small for the convenience of users who have slow or limited Internet access. The current update file is 857 bytes. We anticipate 20 to 40 bytes of increase in update size for each new threat added.

  9. Who pays for downloading updates?

    You are responsible for all costs associated with downloading virus signature database updates (data transmission fees, roaming fees and so forth, if applicable).

  10. Does the installation of ESET Mobile Antivirus affect the performance of the operating system?

    Not noticeably. ESET Mobile Antivirus was developed specifically for mobile devices. All processes and applications are designed and optimized for low system requirements.

  11. Does ESET Mobile Antivirus protect against SMS spam and email?

    ESET Mobile Antivirus offers SMS spam filtering using a Whitelist and Blacklist. The integrated on-access scanner protects against malicious email attachments.

  12. Are there plans for iPhone, Java BREW or Symbian versions of ESET Mobile Antivirus?

    ESET may provide versions of ESET Mobile Antivirus for other operating systems in the future, based on the need for protection and demand from customers.

  13. Which edition of ESET Mobile Antivirus should I download?

    If you have a Windows Mobile device with a touch screen, download the Pocket PC edition. If you use your keypad to navigate your Windows Mobile Device, download the Smartphone edition. Each edition is packaged in two formats, a .cab file for copying directly to your device and installing from it, and an .exe file for installing the program from your PC using ActiveSync (in Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (in Windows Vista).
