ESET Will Address the EU’s Data Protection Regulation During Mobile World Congress

Created: 2017-02-09 07:20:51

ESET, the leading IT security vendor based in the European Union, will highlight its approach to the EU’s Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 27 – March 2, 2017. The regulation comes into force just a year from now and has far-reaching implications for businesses across Europe. While compliance with GDPR is the responsibility of business, it should be noted that the primary aim of the regulation is to safeguard the privacy of EU citizens.

Accordingly, ESET is releasing a white paper on the forthcoming legal requirements, coming into force from May 2018 onwards. The white paper demonstrates how ESET security solutions support businesses in meeting the regulatory criteria. ESET experts will be highlighting GDPR at the Congress, in Hall 5, booth B05.

Starting next year, a company is subject to GDPR if it either: “Offers goods or services to data subjects in the EU, irrespective of whether payment is received and monitors its data subjects’ behavior within the EU,” says ESET in the just released white paper based on ESET-commissioned legal expertise by Kemp Jones Solicitors LLP. “Despite introducing a more streamlined legal framework, GDPR is still likely to entail significant changes for many businesses, requiring substantial lead-time,” adds the paper.

“The regulations communicated within GDPR are not solely focused on EU-based companies. These changes will impact every business which processes the personal data of EU citizens,” says ESET Head of Business Development in EMEA, Pavol Balaj. “ESET provides solutions that will help businesses meet the requirements of the regulation and at the same time safeguard the private data of EU citizens,” continues Pavol Balaj, who will be present at the Congress.

GDPR also identifies measures deemed appropriate for the job – highlighting encryption among of them. Generally, the main benefits of encryption technology are its strength – thanks to powerful algorithms and growing key length (bits) – wide availability, as well as the relatively low cost of implementation, embraced even by some national authorities.

“DESlock Encryption by ESET, offers more than just the basics. It also offers business clients a solution that is simple to deploy, easy to use for even non-technical users and, one that allows for the remote management of keys, settings and security policy. It also allows users to safely encrypt hard drives, removable media, files and email,” says ESET in the just released white paper on the topic.
